Most U3A activities take place in subject groups of which there are over 60 at present.
Each group has one or more group leaders/facilitators who are responsible for arranging the venue, maintaining contact with members, doing the necessary minimal secretarial work and keeping any necessary accounts.
According to demand any member may suggest the formation of a group, providing that there are those prepared to act as leader(s).
The interest group meetings may be conducted by the group leader or by other members with the necessary expertise. The groups may have a fixed or floating membership, some may levy a group subscription or attendance fee to cover administrative expenses and may meet regularly or occasionally. Some groups meet in members homes whilst others, depending on their size and particular needs (e.g. art, swimming, IT, tennis) meet on other premises.
