Charnwood u3a is a registered charity, affiliated to the Third Age Trust (the national representative body for local u3a groups). The u3a movement is a learning co-operative, enabling members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities. It is non-religious and non-political and has three main principles.

Charnwood u3a was founded in 1997. The original membership of 145 has grown steadily to the current total of about 1,000.
